MARKET African Americans AAHM/Sundiata Festival
DESCRIPTION This festival is named in honor of Sundiata Keita, the historic and legendary Mansa (king of kings) of the Mali Empire in West Africa, who rescued his tribe’s storyteller from a rival tribe. Traditional drumming and dance set a rhythmic tone for a weekend filled with continuous live entertainment, while an impressive line-up of Northwest artists take jazz, rap, gospel, Hop-Hop, R&B and traditional African styles to new heights.
