Cambridge — The date for the 17th annual Cambridge Carnival has been pushed back to Sept. 13, as the organizers hope to reach out beyond their traditional Caribbean base.
Usually held in late August, the carnival date was moved in part to better accommodate sponsors. According to Cambridge Carnival International’s president, Nicola Williams, the “strategic” date change was also made to open the Kendal Square carnival to all the college students who during past carnivals were still on summer break.
“We want to take advantage of the influx of college students coming back to Cambridge and reach out to that audience,” said Williams, who realized the untapped population when noticing students attending MIT orientation at last year’s carnival. “Due to the live music and flair [the carnival] provides, I think it’s something they will enjoy.”

During their stays, these youth experience US history and culture in Washington DC, live with U.S. families across the country, attend schools and cultural activities, and interact with U.S. youth. The experience expands knowledge and understanding among youth to promote increased mutual understanding among peoples of the Americas.”
The Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners Chapter is trying to continue the program by getting a permanent spot on the globalgiving website. They’ve almost reached theibut ...

I have not much more to say about the new
Jewish American Girl Historical Doll, Rebecca Rubin, that hasn’t already been said (although it is interesting to think-I didn’t realize all the other dolls weren’t Jewish) but it is notable that programming was created to connect the new doll to the Lower Eastside
Tenement Museum. I visited the museum a number of years ago, and definitely felt the connection and history. I imagined my great grandfather, who came over to the US hidden in the bowels of a ship, may have stayed there before pursuing his fortunes as a junk salesman, and eventually establishing a life and family in the US.
